Happy Halloween!

One of my best friends likes to say that I haven't changed since kindergarten. And I have to admit, in some ways - like my unwavering love for Halloween - she's right!

This year (with a lot of help from my very talented cousin NattyJane) I decided to make my costume for the first time! With a great deal of a patience, some wonderfully awful Lifetime Halloween movies, and two cups of tea I transformed into a snowy owl (and she a flower!)

Checkout the tutorial for my amazing costume at my cousin's blog All Dressed Up and Nowhere To Go (in the link section).

All dressed up in my costume, with my boyfriend Andy by my side, I began one of my favorite Halloween traditions...cookies!! Every year my elementary school held a Halloween Carnival with games, a cake walk, and my very favorite, a cookie decorating booth! Every year I would spread bright orange icing on a sugar cookie and then cover it with gummy bears, candy corn, m&ms, and sprinkles so there was barely any cookie left visible. And like my best friend said, I haven't changed much! :)

 Recipe:
 1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer.
In a separate bowl combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the butter and sugar.
After combining well, shape dough into a flat ball. Warp it in plastic wrap and in chill for 2 to 3 hours.

Divide dough into thirds. Roll each portion 1/4-inch thick on a well floured surface.
Cut with cookie cutters and place cookies on greased baking sheets.
Bake at 375 F for 7 to 10 minutes, until the edges are lightly brown.
And then DECORATE! :)
 So many possibilities!!

These are a few of the ones that I came up with!

I hope you all have a wonderful Halloween, and don't forget to hold on to some of your favorite childhood memories!!
